About:

Mark Alan Knapp Jr., MA, is an award-winning multimedia composer, songwriter, and collegiate educator from Northwest Ohio. A modern-day Renaissance man of the music industry, Knapp’s primary goals are the creation of music, understanding the modern technologies that make it possible, telling stories via interactive media, and educating others in regards to the processes behind it all.

Knapp began his musical career with writing and recording alternative, pop punk, post-hardcore, and pop rock music. Spending the majority of his career's beginnings in solitude at his home studio Teenage Suburbia Studios, Knapp honed the skills of not only what makes a catchy tune- but what makes excellent production. Continuing his studies, Knapp moved from popular music to the classical forms of Western art music, and eventually, music for mixed media. By utilizing his singer/songwriter and production background, Knapp has devised an approach to film and game scoring that leaves contemporaries waiting to hear what’s next.

Most notably, Knapp's music has been featured on TV One's Fatal Attraction (Seasons 13-15), as well as the soundtrack for the award winning short film Amour To Mr. Solace (2021). Knapp is currently a
contract composer, the in-house composer/songwriter for the Detroit based Broken Television Entertainment, and has over 100 pieces of original music and arrangements licensed with several music and sync libraries from across the United States. Knapp’s compositions and arrangements can be heard on national television, radio, video games, podcasts, web commercials, and more.

Knapp has an ambitious drive for synthesizing knowledge and sharing that knowledge with others. He has already begun inspiring the world the way his favorite musicians and mentors have inspired him, and he remains ever excited to see where all of his diverse training and talents will continue to lead him on his ever evolving musical journey.

Knapp’s production influences include Chris Lord-Alge, The Beatles, Brian Wilson, and Jeff Lynne. As a rock artist, his influences include Green Day, blink-182, Marianas Trench, All Time Low, and The Wonder Years. As a composer for visual media, his influences include Bernard Herrmann, Hajime Wakai, Tsukasa Tawada,
Gō Ichinose, and Dan Salvato.

Testimonials:

"I consider myself lucky to have the opportunity of taking him in for our unpaid project. Work of his calibre is reminiscent to AA company composers and professional music!"
"Mark distributed a wealth of information. Anyone who wants to pursue film scoring would do well to take a few semesters with him. Much more than I expected from a workshop!"
"He is a great mentor, but also likes to have fun and try new things alongside the students. He does not act better than us, merely a mentor expressing his love for music. My favorite class by far."
"Very in tune with students needs - able to communicate on their level while remaining professional"

"The studio is my instrument."
